BATTLE UI: THE SEARCH FOR PERFECTION

SEMISOFT Dev Diaries 0 Comments

Hi Everyone,

It’s been a while since our last update, there have been so many changes in Legrand Legacy and let us start from right after the alpha test!

The Alpha test taught us many insights about gameplay, visual, audio, UI, and user experience. In this article, we are going to tell you one of the changes we have made after the alpha test: Battle User Interface.

Alpha UI 1

      BS UI first version

This is the first version of our battle UI. Some of the Alpha testers found that the position of the HUD and Info Bar were not intuitive enough for them, Why? Because the command panel at the bottom left of the screen and the Information Bar and HUD are too far apart.

So, what did we do about that?

Obviously we brought the two closer, by moving the info bar to the bottom of the screen.

THE FIRST PROTOTYPE

BS1

BS UI first prototype

This was back when before there was a reserve party mechanic… But we feel that the size and position overall are still not quite right yet…

THE SECOND PROTOTYPE

BS2

BS UI 2nd Prototype

In the second UI prototype we added the reserve character HUD on the left side of the screen… Haven’t really changed anything on the size and position.

THE THIRD PROTOTYPE

BS3

BS UI 3rd Prototype

So we moved around the characters HUD and voila! The foreground is more crowded than a wet market with a fresh shipment of goods at 5 in the morning…

THE FOURTH PROTOTYPE

BS4

BS UI 4th Prototype

It’s still not good enough, we thought, still too many elements on the screen, we need to simplify it, we still need to remove some stuffs. After some discussion, we decided to take off the reserve characters HUD and put it in the misc section instead.

THE FIFTH PROTOTYPE

BS6

BS UI 5th Prototype (Final)

Before we created the fifth prototype, we pondered on why we were changing the battle UI in the first place: the HUD were too far apart with each other. Therefore, we decided on characters HUD without the reserve characters to be at the bottom of the screen.

And that’s our journey of making the battle UI, what do you guys think? Are there any more improvements we can implement?
